Review of Yojimbo (1961) by Greg P — 25 Jan 2009
Sergio Leone remade this film as A FISTFULL OF DOLLARS. Classic action film has wandering samurai Toshiro Mifune playing the two factions that control a Japanese village during the period of civil war in the 19th Century (we know this because one of the bad guys returns from the coast with a Colt revolver, shattering the illusion that this is set in the period of civil war in the 17th Century).
Mifune is funnier and more talkitive than Eastwood's "Mane With No Name" character but just as deadly and cunning.
