Review of Yojimbo (1961) by Peter P — 30 Jun 2010
Akira Kurosawa was an incredibly impressive film maker, it seems that he was able to craft great stories that keep getting retold by others and from what I have seen he never did anything small. Yojimbo is a one of those stories (funny side note, the first time I came across this story was in the Bruce Willis movie LAST MAN STANDING, which is a pretty good movie, then I saw Clint Eastwood in A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS and was like, hey, I think they stole the story, but then I learnt that FISTFUL was stolen from YOJIMBO, so I watched the last first and the first last, I just find that funny) in which a man plays both sides of a feuding town against each other.
The film works great, although there is a fair bit of bad acting, but not from the lead who does a steller job as the title character. Overall I think this is a great film and I can totally see why it has been copied so many times.
