I'm currently catching up on my Kurosawa - this was an amazing entry. Mifuni was brilliant as the original "Man With No Name". Some of the cinematography was mindblowing. The combination of western and samurai films is well documented, but in this film the match is just perfect.

This is probably one of the most accessible films for non-'Foreign Film' people, as the pacing is tight and the situations are very familiar for western viewers. This film is exciting, funny, dramatic and just damn awesome.

It's no wonder Clint and Sergio Leone felt the need to remake this film as a great western in its own right (A Fistful of Dollars). I'm looking forward to seeing the "sequel" Sanjuro.
