Review of Yojimbo (1961) by Ben T — 19 May 2008
The film that Sergio Leone illegally remade as A Fistful of Dollars is based of this film. This film redefined the samurai genre and the character of samurai in films forever. Kurosawa's Weapon in this film and many others is Toshiro Mifune as Sanjuro.
Add in the western genre flavor in it as well and one can see how much Kurosawa really like John Ford and other westerns. Not to be forgotten is Tatsuya Nakadai as the gunslinger, Unosuke. It introduced a very heavy dark hero for the samurai genre, many would come to imitate Mifune's acting as the hero but nobody has ever toppled the character that changed a whole genre as Mifune did.
