Review of Yojimbo (1961) by B - Call Me At (212) Yo-Momma — 09 Aug 2008
I've seen the best of Kurosawa, and this is my favorite. The movie is darkly hilarious, and for the bumbling peasants in The Hidden Fortress, we get instead an entire town of total idiots. The music gives great accents, Mifune is the most bad-ass ronin around (and a damn good actor) and the plot is thrilling.
Even the sword fights, (especially the "gang war" in the beginning) despite their campiness, have good choreography and a certain appeal. And so, five stars.
