Review of Yojimbo (1961) by Tristan G — 21 Mar 2009
Not that Fistful of Dollars isn't a great film, but this is the original coolness. Pretty violent and dark in places, but it seems like Akira Kurosawa's drifter (and the rest of the cast) have a bit more of a sense of humour than Leone's gunslingers.
Combined with all the fighting and dying going on this makes it all slightly surreal, which I like. Black and white with subtitles thoughout which can be tough going, especially if you can't give it your full attention.
