Review of Yojimbo (1961) by Devon — 01 May 2009
I love this film. Mifune is brilliantly cast here; all the sword-play is his own; as an accomplished swordsman, the scen in Sanjuro (the follow-up to this, and just as impressive) was used for many years as a training piece for would-be practioners.
I don't know if Clint watched this before his portrayal of The Man With No Name, but the performances are quite uncanningly similar. But Toshiro passes the tape first. Excellent.
