Review of Yogi Bear (2010) by Stephen M — 03 May 2011
If you're a four-year-old enamored of fart jokes, you may give this dumb flick two stars. If your holiday spirit is circumventing your brain, you might also want to give two stars. Anyone who is smarter than the average bear would rather have their eyes clawed out by wild animals, trust me.
Yep, it's Hanna Barbera's food-stealing bear and his little buddy Boo-Boo (Aykroyd and Timberlake) in a combo of live action and computer graphics. The bears have to save Jellystone from an evil mayor (Daly) who plans to balance his budget by selling the park. The jokes are obvious, the plot is obvious, and most of the real actors are more wooden than the trees.
So, why might someone give it two stars? Well, for one, Daly as the Mayor is actually intermittently funny. The other reason is that the 3D effects are well rendered. Though they support moronic gags, every so often the visuals make it seem like someone making this film didn't have their heads filled with bear poop.
