Review of Yogi Bear (2010) by Tim F — 17 Jul 2011
"Haha!" This is such a kids-movie! And even for them it could be better! The set-up is so juvinile and just a copy of any Yogi Bear cartoon and all of the typical elements. The same elements are used, which are pretty funny, slapstick-wise.
But the speech and even acting are so obvious and childish. It's pretty weird that it's more or less acepted that a talking bear and his little companion steal people's food in the park, luckely for us in a brilliant way, but still you have to have it from the slapstick and inventions of Yogi.
There is ofcourse some moral and emotional note to all this, typically thrown in with a hiarchy element between the rangers and ofcourse the park that is going to be ruined by the government. (the mayor and his assistent, which I found pretty funny) Tom as ranger Smith does his best and has a lot to act but its all so superficial, same for T.
J. and even Anna (but we're used to that of her). The worst thing is defenitely the very poor special effects on Yogi and Boo. It doesn't realy fit and if you watch carefully the other characters can't be shot infront of them.
Maybe it was 'to hard' to make. This is also very bad for the actors, seemingly having to guess where the two are standing, delivering very bad interaction in general. So the story of saving the park developes nicely, but Yogi doesn't seem to be well aware of that or tries to help but hugely fails in his tremendous plans.
The highlight with the flying 'vehicle' is pretty funny. Ofcourse all ends well. Kids-movie for very small kids.
