Review of Yogi Bear (2010) by Jim K — 05 Jun 2012
This was really short but in some ways that's probably for the best. Fond memories of Yogi cartoons may get you some way through this big-screen version - but the nostalgia soon wears off. Once again, it's another chartoon adaptation where the animation is great and the human "Actors" are just plain awful.
..and plain. Yes, I know this is for kids and yes they'll love it, it was ok but the plot was just too predictable and simple, you already knew what the plot's gonna be about when you have a smart-suited major involved.
The CGI characters were ok but it's the voice acting that is probably the highlight, with Dan Aykroyd as Yogi Bear and Justin Timberlake as Boo-Boo both brilliant and both spot on, Justin Timberlake is so good you would never have thought in a million years it was him doing the voice of Boo-Boo.
Everything else about this movie is bad, with the odd chuckle or two, it is a movie with cheap humour and badly missed gags. A bland 21st-century family comedy without a single moment that captures the wit, energy or sophistication of the original, which by now dates back more than 50 years,it's a shame but once again, like all the other cartoon adaptations.
..they had their chance and failed. Only watch it for Yogo Bear himself and Boo-Boo and the brilliant voice acting...but nothing else.
