Review of Yogi Bear (2010) by The Critic ( — 20 Jan 2013
Hated it, Yogi Bear it's a terrible film, it's stupid, it's predictable and it's full of stupid clichés. Don't even think of watching this movie, it just shows that that they think of everything just to get a high quantity of "green" and I don't think they knew this was going to be a good movie. I mean, The Muppets worked really well, why? Because it didn't look like an extended episode of The Muppets show and it didn't envolve animation with real people and real sets, besides, it had a very clever plot. Yogi Bear it's completely the opposite, it has one of the dumbest roles you can ever imagine, it's just awful and they could make just an animation movie instead or... don't even make Yogi Bear. Were you a fan of Yogi Bear when you were younger? Than don't watch this, not even with your kids, I heard even kids hated it. One of the worst movies I've ever seen, the best thing about this movie was probably casting Dan Aykroyd, he was the only wise thing that they've done with this movie, cause the rest is just tones and tones of clichés and I don't recommend this movie to anybody, no one should waste their time on this, if you watch it, not even you'll be bored, even kids will. Terrible movie.
Eric Brevig was the guy that directed this mistake, let me tell you something, the guy was nominated for two Oscars for best Visual Effects and the only thing I can think about right now is that he should keep working on Visual Effects and lose his faith on directing movies. Dan Aykroyd voices Yogi, I think he did an okay job but he's an amazing actor, he shouldn't be here on this movie, but whatever, I apreciated his work, Dan is known from Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, The Blues Brothers and some other movies. Justin Timberlake was okay here as well, Justin is known from The Social Network, Bad Teacher, Friends With Benefits, Shrek the Third, In Time and some other movies. Anna Faris has already had her big dose of bad films, but this is too much, I don't think she's a terrible actress, but here, she just made stupid out of herself, what was she thinking when she accepted the role, sure she wasn't thinking straight, Anna is known from What's Your Number?, The Hot Chick, Cludy with a Chance of Meatballs and some other movies. Tom Cavanagh was just terrible, so simple as that, Tom is known from Sublime, The Cake Eaters and some other movies. T.J. Miller has succed in making laugh and being a good actor, but here, he just unbalanced his good career, T.J. is known from She's Out of My League, Unstoppable, Cloverfield and some other movies. Sow, as you can see, this movie has a good cast, but expept for who only did voice acting, every performances were just terrible and I think terrible it's not exactly the best word to describe how was each actors' acting. Good cast.
A filmmaker named Rachel (Anna Faris) travels to Jellystone to shoot a documentary with Yogi Bear (Dan Aykroyd), the smart bear who loves food, his sidekick Boo-Boo (Justin Timberlake) and Ranger Smith (Tom Cavanagh), who are now joining forces to make sure that the Mayor (Andrew Daly) doesn't close the park. Life's a pic-a-nic.(What I thought about the plot) I just hated the plot, if I had to describe it in two simple words, the words would be "awful" and "cliché". This script was just so terribly written, it's so stupid, it's so dumb, it's so pointless, you can't even imagine and one thing I noticed was if they wrote a smarter plot that was not loaded of clichés, they would might get a slightly better movie, cause with this kind of plot, not even Steven Spielberg would make a good movie out of it. Whoever wrote it, by the time it was writing it, had the appearence of an adult, but I'm sure the person who wrote it tried to replace its brain for a while and switch it for a six year old brain. Terrible plot.
Soundtrack, well, I don't even remember a theme or something like that, but not even a soundtrack composed by Hanz Zimmer would save Yogi Bear from being a disaster. The CGI effects were great, but why didn't they try to CGI people and make an entirely CGI'ed film? Well, they're stupid and the CGI effects might have been two of the only things I enjoyed about this awful movie.
Besides all that, I am now going to tell you what I really thought about this movie. First of all, don't even bother on wasting your time watching the movie, or even the trailer, the movie's tones of bad reviews and its 4.3 on IMDb might explain to you how bad this movie is. They just wanted to get a lot of money, wich I think they were able to and besides, I don't even think none of the people who were going to make it actually believed that this was going to be a bad, well, if they were, they were out of their mind, cause Yogi Bear it's not just one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time, it's one of the worst movies that young children have watched. Overall, Yogi Bear was totally unnecessary and I hated it, make sure you don't watch this movie, it just embaraces the history of the word "Movies", this movie has a good cast, but awful perfomances, it has a terrible plot, it's totally boring, it's full of clichés and it's not funny, it only has great CGI effects. I just hated it, one of the worst movies in history. Yogi Bear: 2.0/10. Terrible.
Terribe movie. Not recommended movie. Grade: E.
