Review of Yi Yi (2000) by Sylvain C — 28 Sep 2007
This is currently one of my favorite movies. It traces the lives of three members of a Taiwanese family over the course of a few weeks. The father evaluates his career, and has a run-in with an old flame.
The teenage daughter falls in love for the first time, and the little son is just learning about the world. The movie begins with a wedding and ends with a funeral. It is a poem about growing up and old.
(for those of you who have seen it, this morning I went for a run here in Taipei and stopped at N.Y. Bagels.).
