Review of Yi Yi (2000) by Kelly C — 08 Jan 2008
To call the late Edward Yang's 'Yi Yi' a family drama would be a woeful understatement and a disservice to this great film. Yang's conservative directorial style helps enhance this naturalistic, voyeuristic glimpse into the interwoven lives of a Taiwanese family.
Seamlessly captures the interplay between three generations, and consequently emerges as a brilliant overview of the cycle of birth and death. Sublime and universal in its delivery of common themes of innocence, love, loss and death.
