Review of Yi Yi (2000) by Babette H — 01 Feb 2008
The film world lost Edward Yang last year, and after making so few films. He left his job as a computer scientist in his early 30's to become a director, and what a blessing it was to the rest of us.
This is the most perfect film - themes of innocence, love, regret, meaning, pain and death. The little boy Yang Yang goes around taking pictures of the back of everyone's heads, and asks:''I can't see what you see and you can't see what I see.
So how can I know what you see?'' It is so rare to come across a film that is as life-giving as this one.
