Review of Yi Yi (2000) by Steven B — 22 Mar 2008
A deft, almost novelistic amassment of detail that culminates in what feels like some beautiful depth charge going off in the soul. If it weren't for the painted/cologned faux-Cinematheque attendees sitting next to me, sighing about the film's length, I might've happily dissolved.
Patrons of the arts, unfortunately, need to be seen much more than they need to see. And, considering what this pic is about, the irony wasn't lost on me one bit.
