What do you say of a film like this? the construction is simple. the scenes have a feel of mere observance. but somehow yang has taken these things and made them into a profoundly effective human drama.

on all accounts the film deals with a variety of age groups and the issues that come with their respective territories. though there are a few moments that feel a bit forced, like the metaphorical comments on art and filmmaking, the overall drive of the piece is one of the most effective efforts in empathy that has been put to film.

it encompasses so many different ideas and emotions and somehow still gives us a coherent plot and characters. in that sense, it is a miracle of cinema. the performances are, for the most part, absolutely astounding.

the cinematography employs many interesting techniques, most notable all the shots from just outside of glass with reflections of places and things that provide depth to the feeling of the film. but more than all that, the most striking element is how effective the all these things are when mixed together.
