Review of Yesterday (2019) by Mason_The_2Nd — 04 Jan 2020

Do you know what’s sad? I came in to expect liking this movie. But it ended up being my 2nd least favorite movie of the year right next to CATS (Which is also a Working Title film.) Yesterday is a boring and broken film that is a waste of an interesting premise. Even with its solid performances and charm, it does not make up for the confusing story, bad jokes, forgettable characters, slow pacing, and terrible writing choices (Ed Sheeran is in this movie for no reason other than "OoH lOoK iT's Ed ShEeRaN eVeRyBoDy"). Also, the ending just pisses me off in so many ways. Yea it's a cute ending with Jack revealing the truth and showing his love for his girlfriend... BUT.

It never shows how Jack ended up in this story after the accident. Was he in a coma? Did he somehow wake up to another universe (Maybe Aliens were involved somehow)? Did God just wipe everyone's memories out? IDK. It's. Never. Answered. I get that it's a fantasy, but you gotta at least give some sort of explanation on this, otherwise, it's just going to be confusing for everybody. But even if that wasn't a problem, the rest of the film would be an unfunny and confusing mess of a movie. I guess I would recommend it if you're a Beatles fan, but for others... Go watch Rocketman instead.
