Review of Yes Man (2008) by Choco D — 20 Jul 2014
This movie is pretty good, just not for me. I just find that I have to "overlook" certain things that irk me, such as the idea of saying yes presented in a way that makes no sense to me, forgettable romance, silly stunts such as bungee jumping, saving someone from jumping off a building, and going body surfing down a road.
Also when that old lady says "would you like a sexual release" it reminded me too much of the first few scenes of Ace Ventura. I was hoping I would like this movie but I found it curiously unfunny and more dramatic and serious, but in a way that was kind of darkly comic - almost like Zack Snyder's Watchmen or 300 or one of those plodding movies like 10,000 B.
C. Something about it I didn't like, but it was still a good movie. Just not great. Well, it was great. But that doesn't mean I have to give it 3.5 stars or 4 stars. That rating is reserved for movies that stun or shock me in some way, but are still not my kind of movie.
Actually, I will give it an 8 out of 10, because it's a good, warm, happy well-done movie that is extremely entertaining, and purchasing this for 22.99 was one of my greatest movie purchases of this decade, I watched a couple of times and loved it both times, and look forward to watching it again! Such a heartwarming, fun, enjoyable movie! Jim Carrey is actually likeable in this one and not just an immature goof.
It's actually quite fun, for a good time at the movies, you can't go wrong with Yes Man. Wonderful, uplifting joyous and sneaky/smart fun. Great movie.
