Review of Yes (2010) by Clwyd E — 04 Sep 2007
I'll admit this movie has a pretentious aura, especially at assuming we side with the heroine. That element aside, Yes is a wonderfully well written (in rhymed iambic pentameter) love affair between a man from Beruit and an American scientist living in Ireland.
The film overall is pretty empty and doesn't finish telling the story; this doesn't work because this isn't a story we the audience are to be emotionally involved in. We actually expect the characters to finish the story for themselves, and the ending is symbolic, of course, but not necessarily resolute.
Still, there are many many scenes all throughout the film that are profound from all aspects- the writing, directing, and acting are simply superb. (props on the sex scene in the restaurant, as well. i'd like to assume that was shot in the most realistic way possible, but only because it couldn't have felt more real.
).
