Review of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) by Ramesh M — 30 May 2013
Ayan Mukherji's latest venture sort of looks like taken out of a discarded never to be made - Wake Up Sid 2 sequel. Although its not a completely bad thing, film though has nothing new to offer that is not expected of a Ayan Mukherjee project.
A bunch of school mates hop in together for a trekking adventure in manali , when an unexpected fellow traveler studious Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone) tags along with them. Along the journey Kabir Thapar aka Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) tries to open up Naina who clearly seems to be overtly aloof to the crowd.
Deepika seems to be the only cast that I find slightly odd, considering how hard it is to make a Kingfisher calendar model to look like a hardcore nerd . Apparently all that make up artist did was to make her wear those hard rimmed glasses that Harry Potter ( Daniel Radcliffe) apparently left around after completing the final installment of the series.
If thats not enough she also brings along her Neuroscience textbooks to the trip coz there is no best place to learn than trekking trip to one of the coldest places in the country where all your roomates and colleagues are conspicuously drunk.
In such long and predictable screenplay Ayan has managed to had few scenes that bring us audience to cheer , smile, laugh and unconsciously fall in love with the characters for just reminding us those good old days with our college friends.
Also watch out for an Item Number by Madhuri Dixit that's just awesome and so nostalgic to watch. The second half is cut to 8 years later where we see Ranbir chasing his career so passionately, and Apparently Aditi (Kalki) getting married brings together old gang to one place to confront their hidden emotions they kept to each other for all these years.
Ignoring the fact, Aditya Roy Kapoor's desperate attempts inflict himself with Type II Diabetes and Liver cirrhosis by finishing off every JD , Smirnoff, Bacardi he finds along his path , It also involves Bunny's confrontation with his love for Naina ( Deepika) , Dealing with his father's demise and Apparent built in anger of his friend Avi (Adiya Roy Kapoor) for being felt left out.
