Review of Yeelen (1987) by Michael L — 28 May 2008
Of the new world cinema, the middle east has made some fascinating and breakthrough cinema. east asia has followed. though africa is considered the next big cinema hope, I have never been impressed with anything ive seen.
while this film is definetely gorgeous to watch, the style is just lost on me. watching it, I almsot feel that the critical acclaim is based on amazement that africa actually made a movie not on merit.
