Review of Year One (2009) by Skyler I — 24 Aug 2011
Year One is a strange combination of comic genius and incredible stupidity. The jokes are pure hit and miss. Jack Black, Michael Cera and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are pure comic gold when put together, but it's everything else in the movie that fails.
It's abysmally long and chugs along at a way too slow pace. Harold Ramis' direction is lackluster at best. He often relies too much on cheap fart jokes and other lame excuses for humour. It also lacks the constant sense of hilarity that previous Ramis outings such as Caddyshack are known for.
This film is more suitable for a rental. It's got some great moments definitely worth seeing, but full price is much too steep.
