Review of Year of the Dog (2007) by Jess H — 23 Jan 2008
If you equate Molly Shannon with her character, Mary Catherine Gallagher (Superstar!), you probably haven't seen this performance. Shannon is nuanced, believable, and subtly funny. The film is one that you'll frequently see pigeonholed as "quirky" or "offbeat," but it's the very normalcy of her character, Peggy's, existance that makes this film.
It's simultaneously sad and amusing, a kind of less lighthearted "40 Year-old Virgin," seen from a fermale perspective. Worth a watching, for those with a different viewpoint, but definitely not for the mainstream crowd.
