Molly Shannon gives a riveting performance in this movie, which can be best described as a darkly comic drama. Laura Dern is excellent as usual, and Peter Sarsgaard remains a master of subtlety. Small, slow, and slightly odd, the film turns out to be unexpectedly moving at the end.
