Review of Year of the Dog (2007) by Hannah S — 13 Jun 2008
Best described as a sweetly black comedy, this is a strange mix of quirk and sadness. Molly Shannon's lead character is in turns sweet, sympathetic and cringe worthy. Its sly digs at the supposedly acceptable social norms of family life are some of the best moments.
Viewers who are dog lovers will probably appreciate the themes of this movie the most, although could also dislike the inference that devoted animal activists or vegetarians/vegans are automatically lunatics.
