Review of Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) by Dean T — 24 Aug 2011
A musical bio-pic about the life of George M Cohan, a populist song & dance man who finds success on Broadway & inspires the American troops in WW1 with his patriotic songs. James Cagney is great as the cocky Cohan in what is a fairly soft biography.
There are very few bumps along the way & next to no opposition or controversies to impede his progress. Still it's likeable enough with memorable songs, dancing, & an interesting use of montage.
