Review of XXY (2007) by Birte A — 03 Aug 2008
In the wake of the success that Eugenides has had with Middlesex, you wonder why this film doesn't attract more viewers. Films like XXY make you hopeful that the female/male divide will one day cease to be taken for granted.
I found this to be a very special movie, thanks first of all to the atmosphere, the seaside, the look of the house Alex lives in with her parents. But it's the strong performances esp. by the young actors, Efron and Piroyansky, which really make this worthwhile watching.
