Review of Xtro (1982) by Martin S — 02 May 2008
A RIOT! This D-grade nasty resurfaced in my life recently when I was reminiscing about the "man birth" scene after I had seen it maybe 20 years ago when my dad rented it on video.
I wasn't aware that it had been released on DVD so I ordered it from Netflix and voila, all the hilarious memories came flooding back in the 90 minutes or so that I spent watching this rubbish. It's basically a low-budget British horror movie. I even think some of the exterior shots/sets were used in "The Lair Of The White Worm".
A boy watches his father being abducted by a spaceship, and three years later, the father returns, but let's just say, a little different. The movie is a confusing mess, riddled with feverish images of evil eggs, devil children and alien splatter - the outstanding scenes include a woman giving birth to a man (LOL), a woman being turned into an alien egg factory and bizarre incestual scenes of the newly-returned dad biting his son on the neck.
There's also a side-splitting scene involving the annoying mother discovering the alien eggs - what happens to her is riotous! I haven't laughed this hard since, well, basically the scene where the woman gives birth to a man. Basically, this movie is terrible, but there are some outstanding scenes which gives this movie a well-deserved once in a lifetime viewing.
