Review of Xanadu (1980) by Giffy G — 30 May 2008
I am suprrised how much I loved this movie. So, let me get this out of the way: the plot is atrocious, and detracts from the enjoyability of the song and dance numbers. Now that that's over with, the song and dance numbers have a production value unmatched since the heyday of MGM musicals--and I believe the inclusion of Gene Kelly is their nod to that.
There were moments when I was openly weeping, there were moments when I had a smile painted on my face. If only the plot didn't suck so much. 'Cause it does. It sucks so, so much.
