Review of Xanadu (1980) by Julie A — 28 Dec 2009
I have watched the trailer plus a clip for this film on the net, and I had gotten curious; So I'd ordered the film and after I had watched the WHOLE film I love it! A musical-fantasy like no other, but I am shocked by the negativity towards it.
The film is about a frustrated artist named Sonny who dreams of fame beyond his dead-end job; he hates painting large, display-versions of record albums. Then he met and fell in love with a mysterious girl named Kira, who was really Terpsichore - The muse of dance, a daughter of Zeus & Mnemosyne - The goddess of memory; those were the people whose heavenly voices belong to in the scene where Sonny tries to bring Kira/Terpsichore back with him...I studied Mythology you know. I love a really good musical, they've great songs in them. My favorite musical scenes are "Dancin'" a wonderful blend of the 40s and 80s. And "Don't Walk Away" an animated sequence animated by none other than Don Bluth, and I had listened to that song, I cried...Really! I cried! I haven't cried since like...months ago or so. Well overall an awesome musical to enjoy.
