Review of Xanadu (1980) by Mikey H — 23 Dec 2010
The movie that inspired the Razzie Awards. Okay, so the movie's plot was horrible, and Michael Beck's acting was so bad, it was hilarious after being so good in The Warriors as Swan. But some great music by Olivia Newton- John and ELO make up for the mess of a plot.
Campy, cheesy, but totally watchable and fun. The movie might have killed the career of Beck, never allowed Olivia Newton John to headline a movie ever again, bombed at the box office, and made you wonder how much Gene Kelly needed a paycheck to appear.
But the soundtrack was a smash, and it has developed a cult following and would become a Broadway musical many years later. Recommended for the campiness, music, and cheezy special effects! Sorry it took me so long to finally watch it!
