Review of Xanadu (1980) by Paula P — 16 Feb 2013
Xanadu is a film that looks like they ran out of production days and put what they had together. The dance movies wee obviously not choreographed very well. People are dancing but not together. The isn't enough characters and some of them aren't very well developed.
Also there's an unsatisfying and confusing ending which wasn't bad but wasn't a good way to end a film. Olivia Newton-John, Michael Beck, and Gene Kelly portray their characters very well, even with a not-so-good script.
However, the songs are incredibly awesome, thanks to ELO and Olivia Newton-John. IT also boasts some spectacular, TRON like, special effects, that were awesome. Overall, Xanadu is not a bad film, but not a good one either.
It just needs some polishing around the edges and it could be a awesome film, but for what it is, it's got some potential. It has a cult status so you can't go wrong with that.
