Review of Xanadu (1980) by The S — 14 Jan 2008
This movie gets an unusually high rating simply because of its role in my life. Yes, I was raised on Xanadu. Some may not think a regular diet of Xanadu is good for a young child, and that may be true, but I argue that this film had a lot going for it.
You may argue that there was a lot in the negative column as well, but a side by side comparison will undoubtedly land Xanadu in the win column if you'd give it the chance it deserves. I mean Olivia Newton John, Gene Kelly in his final movie role, ELO, Don Bluthe animation, 'Magic,' leg warmers and roller skates, Greek Muses, and Olivia singing the title song in 4 different styles (including country).
Some argue that it's the worst movie ever made, but that medal apparently goes to a Canadian knock off film called 'The Apple.' I'd give The Apple 5 stars too though, so you know where I'm coming from.
