Review of Xanadu (1980) by Steven B — 26 Sep 2009

Watching this movie is one of my guilty pleasures. It is full of terrible acting and is about as campy as a movie musical can be. But, Olivia is so pretty that she really does seems magical. And her songs and the ELO ones really make it fun to watch.

I like to think of this movie as one long Olivia Newton-John music video. I remember being a little kid seeing this and thinking it was soooo cool. lol. I have since been teased several times for my love of this movie.

I guess it just reminds me of when I was little. People forget that before Madonna, Olivia was the pop queen. I like to watch this movie on a depressing rainy day because it always cheers me up and takes me back to 1980.

I suppose one of the coolest things about watching old movies is that it can bring you back to another time. This movie is everything that was going on at the time. Electro pop music was fresh, we all went rollerskating, we had mullets, and wore bright clothes.

Yeah, the movie is campy and sappy, but that how we were back then. Seems like it was definitely the last of the sweet and innocent times.
