Review of Xanadu (1980) by Lexie1912 — 01 Sep 2008
If you can get over the magical musical roller-disco aspect of Xanadu, you can learn seven things from this film:
1) Olivia Newton-John's feathered hair is the template for every fashionable hairstyle of the late 70's and early 80's, and the benchmark by which all other feathered hair should be judged.
2) Roller skates are a feasible form of primary transportation, especially in Los Angeles.
4) In 1980, Mount Olympus was redesigned to look like a rudimentary version of Tron.
5) To the children of the 70's, the idealized 1980's looked and sounded like the offspring of Devo and an intepretive dance troupe from space. We should be thankful that the 80's died.
6) Kinko's and other large-format-capable printers probably put a lot of struggling artists out of a job.
7) Nobody -- NOBODY -- looks comfortable or graceful on traditional rollerskates.
