Review of X2 (2003) by Lloyd H — 27 Jan 2013

I thought this was a good sequel and built on the success of the original well. This film is considered by most to be the best in the series and up there as one of the best superhero films of all time.

Personally I think its slightly overrated but its a good film and arguably the best in the series. The cast is great and the characters are explored in more depth to create a bigger scale than the original.

The action goes up a notch and some of the fight scenes and set pieces are very good. The opening Nightcrawler scene in the White House is visually brilliant. The scenes in the plastic prison where Magneto is in jail are also great.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is great and the supporting cast is strong. The ending is very good and leaves the door wide open for a great third outing. Sadly this wasn't to be. I watched the special features on the dvd and Bryan Singer kept referring to 'The Empire Strikes Back' saying that he wanted X2 to follow the same route and be as succesful.

Ever since i've heard people compare the two films and say they're on a par with each other. Personally I think that's ludicrous. X2 is a good sequel, the scale is bigger, the set pieces are bigger and is just as good if not slightly better than the original.

But overall it's just a good film. But its certainly not on a par with 'The Empire Strikes Back'.
