Review of X2 (2003) by Sammy M — 11 Nov 2013
I can`t believe it`s already a decade ago since this movie was first released. I can safely say it has aged very, very well indeed. The effects still look stunning and that`s thanks to alot of practical effects.
It`s suprising to me to see such a comic book movie hold up this well because the CGI is under such extreme improvements every year. The practical effects like Mystique, Nightcrawler, X-23 and so on. It all serves this movie a bunch in the long run.
That`s not to say the CGI has aged bad either because that also holds up suprisingly well. The action is top notch no doubt about it, but it`s far from what I enjoy the most about this movie if not to say the entire franchise.
The screenplay is simply fantastic. I can`t stop my fanboy outburst when it comes to all these amazing characters. Wolverine, Jean, Magneto, Xavier, Mystique, Cyclops, they are one of my favourite superheroes ever and they are so expertly written it`s hard to even express how good it is.
I love these actors, I love these characters, I love how they are portraid and the relationships between the characters, I love how elegantly their powers flow with the action. Bryan Singer flourishes, just simply flourishes with creativity and style.
To give all these characters such depth and believability requires some real talent. This is as good as the screenplay gets for superhero movie standards. The reason why I can`t quite give it that extra score is because I felt that the villain was pretty weak and the overall plot wasn`t that memorable.
Other than that, I would say it`s a stunning motion picture.
