Review of X2 (2003) by Hugo P — 26 Apr 2014

With all the buildup gone thanks to the first X-men. X2: X-Men United shows how to make a sequel right. Most of the problems that I had with the first X-Men are gone. The special effects are still date, but it's still understandable.

But all the actors are a little bit more comfortable in their roles. The younger actors aren't so awkward in their roles. I felt like the story was better this time around. It is longer, I had no problem with that.

If it was shorter, it would be a mess. The run time is necessary. You don't feel the length, you have such a good time with the movie you don't care how long it is. I was entertained all the way through.

There was never a boring moment. The action is better this time, Bryan Singer had more of a grasp with the action. The writing is great. Halle Berry, which I had a big problem in the first one, wasn't that annoying in this one.

She is still kind of annoying, not as much. I said the first X-Men was a decent superhero movie. X2 is a great superhero movie. It's not close to being in my top ten superhero movies. But maybe top fifteen.

All the performances are great again. The plot can get a bit predictable, especially towards the end. You know what Magneto is going to do. You know everything is going to be resolved by the end of it.

Like the first one, all the tension is gone because you know there are sequels. I liked the introduction of Nightcrawler. He is not in the sequel. I would have liked to see him in the sequel. He is not developed wrongly.

But I would have liked to see a little more with the character. Overall, this is a great and worthwhile sequel. I would recommend this to anyone.
