Review of X2 (2003) by Magnus G — 19 Dec 2014
X2 is an improvement over the first film in many areas. The characters feel a little three dimensional and there is a lot more at stake in the story. Of the new cast, Brian Cox is an excellent villain as Stryker and Alan Cumming really brings a sense of nuance to Nightcrawler.
The story is still your typical X-Men 'we have to stop a bad guy' story with the same plot elements but it's done very well with a talented cast and a good balance between drama and humour.
The fight scenes are excellent in this and Singer's direction is more ambitious than it was in the first film. It's by no means Empire Strikes Back or The Dark Knight but it's a solid entry in a generally divisive franchise.
