Review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) by Yuk Jiun L — 24 Aug 2013
Pretty mediocre. It's not completely unwatchable (that might change on another viewing though, and I don't really intend to watch it again). But I can't say anything good about it either (other than Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber, amd maybe Gambit, but he's not in it enough).
The beginning is super rushed, all the characters that are on the glossy poster up there are given weak introductions, and the parts of Wolverine's actual origin that are interesting are rushed and glossed over for the sake of a story that really goes nowhere in the end (and seriously, the ending sucks!, I know they're setting up the first film but seriously? The way Wolverine loses his memory seems like a complete afterthought!) It's actually apparent to me at this point that the whole idea of a Wolverine origin is pointless, because he loses his memory anyways, so he's not really the same character that he was in the other movies.
Obviously Jackman played him the same way, but I can't help but think about that. I really don't know what else to say about this one. I really didn't like the Last Stand, but I haven't seen it in a while to really determine if this was better than that one or not.
I suppose that if I saw it on tv or something I would probably watch it again, but seriously, wait for DVD on this one. It's too much of a clusterfuck of a movie for it to be worth spending full price on.
