Review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) by Abbas H — 19 Jan 2014
Could've been a good movie had they focused only on his passage to the Weapon X program and not put any of the other nonsense in. There's enough story from the comics of his early life before the Weapon X program and during it to tell a decent origin story.
Instead, the writers thought they could tell a better origin story and cram a lot of stupid, pointless plotpoints in. They rushed his procedure in like 5 minutes; something which was like 10 issues in the comics showing just how messed up the program was and how they treated him like a lab animal which justified him going berserk and killing everyone and escaping (not just overhearing something stupid like "let's erase his memory").
The opening credits along with the first scene in the movie should've been used as the first 20-30 minutes of the story instead of a minute long montage. And all the stupid stuff in between should've never left the writers room (sabretooth, deadpool, etc) Could've cleaned up the CGI for the claws as well because they looked so cartoonish.
This is how I would've liked the movie to have been: The first 40 minutes setting up his life running away from his home because of his mutant powers and living in the wild improving his powers, fighting in the wars and joining the secret military program and then the majority of the movie showing his procedure, him escaping and ending the movie there.
