Review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) by Sandra V — 04 May 2014
Action and explosion overload as we hop and skip through Wolverine's formative years. Despite being too handsome and tall to play Wolverine, Hugh Jackman embodies the character's no-nonsense attitude and dead-pan humour, and let's face it, doesn't look too bad in that wife-beater, or out of it.
The scenes with him and Silverfox soften his edge in a good way, but to counter-balance this tenderness we have Liev Schreiber on barnstorming form as the bad-ass Victor Creed. When I first heard that he would be playing the role, I couldn't really see it, but Schreiber bulked up considerably for the part and delivers his one-liners with panache. The fights between him and Jackman are bone-crunching and they make believable rivals and later enemies.
A special mention must just also go to Ryan Reynolds for combining his killer good looks and dry wit for Deadpool, and Taylor Kitsch for FINALLY bringing the charming and roguish Gambit to the screen with such laid-back charm. Lots of fun and very enjoyable.
