Review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) by Kendyl C — 14 May 2014
An underwhelming excercize in narrating the "origin" of one of Marvel's most memorable characters to casuals and a comedy/committed sin to anyone even remotely a fan of the comic book characters, X-Men Origins: Wolverine simply ends up becoming instantaneously forgettable.
If the overacting -- even Hugh Jackman, as terrific as he always is as Logan, seems to be a bit too dramatic in this role -- and cheap FX don't turn viewers off, it's probably the fact that one of Marvel's most surprisingly popular characters, Deadpool, gets a complete makeover, an awfully unnecessary one. Regardless of common quirks in terms of source material though, as a standalone film, everyone just needs to skip ahead of this entry and straight to First Class or the 2013 sequel, The Wolverine (which thankfully has no involvement with Origins), because although it's not the worst piece of filmmaking you'll ever see and you might even find yourself drawn into it at times, it's just not an important inclusion in the franchise.
