Review of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) by James Z — 12 Apr 2018
After reading reasons why many fans of the X-Men comics/cartoons dislike this film, I can understand why they would feel that way since it goes astray from what they grew up with and enjoy, and I won't argue with that.
But for somebody like me who doesn't read/care about comic books, who already grew out of cartoons by the time the X-Men cartoons came around, and who knew nothing about X-Men prior to the first 3 X-Men movies, I liked this movie.
As one example, I had no idea who Deadpool was until people started complaining about how he was portrayed in this movie, and I understand their disappointment. But for me, since I didn't know who he was, I therefore don't care how he was portrayed, and I still don't care, because I don't care about Deadpool.
But a lot of people do care about that and other things that went astray from the comics/cartoons, so I understand their disappointment. As far as only the movies are concerned, I see how it breaks out of continuity with the first 3 X-Men movies, but since those movies are just "meh" to me, I prefer this movie's storyline over those.
This movie isn't amazing, but it's good enough for me to buy it from the $5 bin at the store. I also bought "Logan" brand new for $20, but I wouldn't even pay $1 for any other X-Men movie.
I just watch them on TV for free if I have nothing better to do at the moment. So for a casual X-Men viewer like me, "Wolverine" and "Logan" are the only X-Men films I've liked enough to buy so far.
