Review of X-Men: First Class (2011) by Alberto A — 05 Jun 2014
Yes, I have heard correctly. This is one of the best prequels I have ever seen. Not only it has great performances, especially by Michael Fassbender who portrays young Magneto, but also because of the amazing depiction of the roots of X-Men.
It has the power to show Magneto not as a villain, but as someone who's angry at the world and humanity for their xenophobic, racist, and murderer records. I don't blame him actually. Even if I was able to identify with Magneto from the first X-Men movies, many people are now able to see through him without the villain façade.
X-Men only reinforces the strength of the first movies (including Final Stand) which I take as a criticism to human behavior. Probably something that helped achieve this was the blend of the plot with the Cold War: the perfect example of the undying human desire for power, dominance, and death.
X-Men First Class is just great.
