Review of X-Men: First Class (2011) by William M — 21 Aug 2014
Entertaining, but inconsistent.
As far as movies go, X:FC is pretty fun. Seeing mutant powers battle each other during the cold war is a pretty good premise for a movie.
The cast all did pretty good. McAvoy and Fassbender might not have the gravity of Stewart and McKellen, but they held their own. Really no complaints, and there are even some cameos.
However, as a movie buff, there are plenty of inconsistencies it has as a prequel. There are plenty of little nods to the original movies, which were great, but then there were things in the time-line that don't match up at all. And as a comic book fan, the X-men movies continue to take unneeded liberties by changing the characters and straying too far from the source material.
