Review of X-Men: First Class (2011) by Faisal A — 10 May 2016
This movie really grows on you, I feel. I almost hated it when I first saw it because I was so opposed to the form it took. For some reason, I saw it as being too mechanical, too self-indulgent as far as loving and exploiting the X-men mythos, and I felt like the plot moved forward for the sake of a plot.
I started to embrace the film as the time passed, and appreciated it for what it was. It can be campy or just plain cheesy at times, but its heart is in the right place, and it does manage to have a great sense of wit and style.
The acting is great, sans January Jones's performance, and Fassbender in particular demands pathos. Pretty good film overall.
