Review of X-Men: First Class (2011) by Ak B — 07 Nov 2013
Top notch acting from the film's twin protagonists (who will go their separate ways) in McAvoy and Fassbender. Fassbender's Magneto brings a whole new dimension to the character by showing the roots of his anger, particularly in the sequence on the island at the end. Kevin Bacon is reliable as ever, as the maniacal, yet calm villain. Good acting down the card, with the exception of January Jones as Emma Frost, who represents a real weak point in casting.
An excellent entry in the post-Dark Knight era of comic films, and an appreciated origin story for a franchise that, unlike Batman and Superman, really had not been told.
