Review of X-Men: First Class (2011) by Brandon L — 06 Jun 2014
X-Men movies have always been a hit or miss for me. Luckily First Class was a hit! James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender do an excellent job filling the shoes of Xavier and Magneto! They showed us a side of the characters we've never seen before! I did have some issues with the film, like First Class contradicting some of the other films, the look of Beast when he talked seemed kind of off to me, and I maybe alone on this one, but I didn't like Shaw as the villain. I think Kevin Bacon plays a great bad guy, but I was never drawn into his character or his intentions. Those are just some of my nit picks, but no movie is perfect. I thought the rest of the cast did a fantastic job. The last fight is what really drew me into the 4 Star rating. I also loved how they used pretty much the same concentration camp scene from the first X-Men, but that also goes along with my problem about the contradicting. It seemed like they wanted this movie to be a reboot, but they clearly establish just from that scene that this goes with the original series. Hopefully X-Men Days of Future Past fixes those problems though. Even with my problems this is still one of my favorite X-Men films and one I could watch over and over again!
Own it! 4 Stars!
