Eliminating the tepid third and fourth installments and benefiting from director Matthew Vaughn's stylish direction, the substance driven script, and Michael Fassbender stand-out performance as the younger Magneto, X-Men First Class is a satifying superhero period piece that represents a much needed revigoration of the franchise.
